It is with deep sadness the family of Virginia Ruth Williams announces her passing on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
Virginia was lovingly known as "Mima" to her family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred H. Williams, mother Bernice Westbrook Russell, father Freeman Russell, son-in-law Jerry Hughes, brother Robert Joseph Russell, and sister-in-law Helen Parks Russell. She is survived by her daughter Janice Williams Hughes, two grandchildren Jeffrey Hughes, Jennifer Hughes Hester and husband Harold Hester. Four great-grandchildren Tray & Taylor Hughes, Ethan & Jenna-Ruth Hester. One niece Ginger Russell Wagoner. Special cousin Joni Williams Poulnott. Two sisters-in-law Grace Fulcher and Dorothy Thomas, one brother-in-law Charles Williams and a host of other relatives. Special thanks to her wonderful caregivers Dava, Tammy, and Priscilla.
Mrs. Williams was raised in the Chestatee Community. She was a life-long member of Salem Baptist Church where she was actively involved in multiple programs including the original WMU group. She graduated from Young Harris College, North Georgia College, and The University of Georgia. She became a teacher and taught in the Forsyth County School System for 35 years where she tried to pass along her love of learning to her students. After retirement, she began volunteering with the auxiliary group at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and the Forsyth County Retired Teachers Association.
Mima was an excellent seamstress sewing many dresses for her daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She loved to garden and continued working in her garden into her 90's. She loved to read, solve crossword puzzles, and cheer on her two favorite sports teams, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, but her favorite activity was spending time with her great-grandchildren. From driving them to preschool, piano lessons, or watching their various sporting events, there was nothing Mima enjoyed more than being with Tray, Taylor, Ethan, and Jenna-Ruth. They were the light of her life!
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Taylor Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Tuesday January 11 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
