Henry Donald (Don) Barnes

Henry Donald (Don) Barnes, 92, passed away at his home in Hoschton, Georgia on January 3, 2022, with his adoring wife and family at his side after a battle with congestive heart failure.

Don loved his wonderful wife of 65 years, Shirley and the life and family they created. He was born in Wilson, North Carolina and grew up in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He served in the Navy, where he learned so much valuable information that he used throughout his life, before returning home and meeting Shirley. Don then went on to a fascinating, long career at AT&T. After his retirement, he started D&S Properties and built many custom homes. Don was the families go to man when something needed fixing or a problem needed solving. He treasured time with his wife, his children and their families, his little dog and of course the Atlanta Braves.

Don is survived by his wife Shirley Simmons Barnes, his 3 children Terrie (Keith) Beaucamp, Cathy (Brian Gould) McKinnon and Bob Barnes. He had 6 grandchildren Amanda (Danny)Wilcox, Brian (Chelsey) McKinnon, Courtney (Cody) Cash, Mark (Lauren) McKinnon, Tyler (Allyson) Beaucamp, Bonnie (Logan Poteet) McKinnon and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2PM Friday, January 7 at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. The family request that all in attendance please wear a mask. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the Barnes family suggest a donation to Samaritans Purse or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
