Mr. Richard Earl Richey, 93, of Farnham, VA, passed away December 20, 2021 at Lancashire Nursing Home in VA.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2021 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Sanuel Hernandez will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born on October 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Fred and Oma Slack Richey. Mr. Richey opened his heart to Jesus at an early age. He married his 1st wife, Jean Stella Morrison Richey on June 01, 1949. Following four years of biblical studies at Toccoa Falls College, he was prepared to minister as a missionary in Costa Rica from 1950 to 1971. He then went to Spain with his wife and two children and was able to communicate the gospel successfully from 1972 to 1980. Mr. Richey returned to the states in 1975 to 1976 where he earned his master’s degree in education at the University of Georgia in Athens. Knowing the Spanish language he was able to be a bilingual counselor to youthful Hispanic offenders in a facility of the Ga Department of Corrections from 1981-1987. He started and developed several Hispanic missions which became organized churches in Hall County, Ga from 1985-2014. He later moved to the Northern Neck of Virginia with his 2nd wife Genie where they worked together in churches and nursing homes with a program they called “Music and Message”. Genie started playing the violin as child and Mr. Richey began communicating spoken messages while yet a teenager. He was a Missionary for CAM International. Mr. Richey was a devoted Christian who served the Lord faithfully for many years.

Mr. Richey is survived by his wife, Gene Shirley Winn Richey of VA., son and daughter in law, Stephen and Ivonne Richey of Gainesville; daughter, Bequi Richey of Athens; grandchildren, Chelsea Elizabeth Richey, Meagan Meadows and a number of other loving family members and friends.
