Jerry Wayne Henry

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 19, 2021

Jerry Wayne Henry was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 19th, 2021. He entered this world in unincorporated Robertstown on May 4th, 1937 and filled the next 84 years with enough memories to last an eternity. Born to the late Grover Cleveland and Gladys Byers Henry, he started working at the age of 10 and became a “sign man,” spending the bulk of his professional life providing a living for his family as an electrician for Henry Sign Systems. But the longest job he ever worked was his relationship with his wife, Barbara Henry, who was the joy of his life. Though he’d tell you that his love for Barbara started far before she ever gave him the time of day, on the books, the two spent 63 years together after being married in the living room of her family home in Helen, where the couple returned earlier this year. They attended Tucker Christian Church for 45 years, where Jerry was an elder, but had begun attending church locally at Center Baptist. Jerry was preceded in death by his siblings, Earl, Walt, Carl, and Jean, all of whom have been waiting for him with open arms.

He is survived by Barbara, his daughter Donna and her husband Randy, and his granddaughter Rachel, and his nieces and nephews; Ric and Diane, Tony and Cindy, Angie, Tim, Tammy and Sean, Kay and Jeff, Debbie and John, as well as his brother George, who we all know as Bud. Additionally, he is survived by a slew of friends, many of whom have become family. Jerry made a friend wherever he went, and could tell you the life story of every person in White County. He was a bottomless pit of information and knew the history of nearly every brick in his community. To know Jerry Henry was to know a hundred jokes and a thousand stories, only a few of which he wouldn’t tell in church. He loved conversation and laughter, and was rarely alone that he wasn’t humming a hymn. Above all, he loved the Lord, and is surely rejoicing to spend Christmas at Home in a perfect body.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Patrick Henry and the Rev. Jon Day will officiate.  Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
