Judy Harris, 75, of Dawsonville passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021.
Born December 13, 1946, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Judy was formerly employed by Sweet-Orr after which she drove a school bus for the Dawson County School System for 12 years. She worked as the manager of the men’s department at Belk’s in Gainesville. After leaving Belk’s, she returned to the Dawson County School System and worked in foodservice. Judy was an Avon representative for many years and won multiple sales awards. She was currently serving as the President of the Dawson County Historical Society. Judy enjoyed traveling with her friends, gardening, flowers, but her biggest love was cooking for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and especially grandmother. A member of Trinity Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Reed Thurmond; father, Buster “Bully” Thurmond; stepmother and stepfather, Yvonne and Preston Sanders; and a sister, Paula Thurmond Waters.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Morris Harris, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Ryan Harris and Karen Andrews, Commerce; grandson, Thomas Harris; sisters, Debbie Nahlik, Dawsonville, Wanda Hutchison, Dawsonville; brother, Jerry “Redbone” Thurmond, Dawsonville; her beloved cat, Taco; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Huff and Rev. Jack Pilcher will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 3 until 8 at the funeral home.
