James Edward Simpson

Obituary Date: Monday, December 13, 2021

Mr. James Edward Simpson, 77, of Gainesville passed away Monday, December 13, 2021 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Hopewell Baptist Church. Mr. John Latty will officiate. Interment will follow in the Simpson Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 15th and on Thursday, December 16th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at James Simpson Barn, 3970 Roy Parks Rd., Gainesville, GA 30507.

Born on December 26, 1943 in Gainesville, he was the son of the late Grover Edward Simpson and the late Lillian Freeman Simpson Lancaster. Mr. Simpson was owner/operator of Simpson’s Trucking and Grading, Inc. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Simpson loved life to the fullest. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart. He loved to move dirt, bailing hay, his cows, antique cars and trucks. Mr. Simpson was a very GENEROUS person and a child of God.

Mr. Simpson fought a courageous battle with cancer for two years. The family would like to special thank Dr. Robert Klassen and all the staff of Homestead Hospice for their compassion and loving care.

Mr. Simpson is preceded in death by his father, Grover Edward Simpson; mother, Lillian Freeman Simpson Lancaster; step father, Ray Lancaster; brother, Jeffery Simpson, Sr.; and grandson, Grover Howell Simpson.

Mr. Simpson is survived by his wife, Betty L. Simpson of Gainesville; sons and daughters in law, Gus and Elizabeth Simpson, Greg and Joy Simpson, Christopher Daniel “Danny” and Christy (Payne) Simpson all of Gainesville; daughter, Angie Simpson of Gainesville; step daughter, Crystal Hall of Toccoa; grandchildren, Shawn and Alicia Simpson, James L.  and Emma Simpson, Caleb Simpson, Cory Simpson, Hanna and Taylor Whitmire, Haley Simpson, Brandon “BJ” and Ashton Simpson, Luke Payne, Kyle Payne, Kelsy Payne, Katie Payne, Troy Payne; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Linda S. and Franklin Harrison of Pittsburg, TX; brother, Jacky and Virginia Simpson of Commerce; sister, Gloria S. and Glenn Jones of Dahlonega; mother of his children, Sybil Simpson of Gainesville and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to New Hope Kingdom, 1423 Brewers Bridge Rd, Elberton, GA 30635, which was a very important charity to Mr. Simpson, or to the charity of your choice.
