Mrs. Helen Holtzclaw Burt, age 95, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021. The daughter of Annie Davis Holtzclaw and Gardie Holtzclaw, Helen Louise was born in Lumpkin County on November 6, 1926.
She will be remembered by many as the manager of Helen's Clothing and Shoes in Dahlonega from 1965 to 1991. Upon retirement from the clothing store, she worked part-time at Charlie's Grocery for a few more years. Helen was a loving, devoted mother and a friend to many. She was well-loved by everyone who knew her. She was also the oldest member of her church, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, Dean Burt; sisters Lora Upchurch and Leila Gooch; brothers Walter Holtzclaw and Dean Holtzclaw; son Carlton Burt; and son-in-law George Elliott.
She is survived by daughters Judy Jones (Chris) and Joyce Elliott of Dahlonega; daughter-in-law Suzanne Keogh (Jim) of Clemson, South Carolina; grandchildren Drs. Chelsea Jones Mikell (Scott) of Statesboro, and Kevin Jones and Nathan Jones of Dahlonega; great-grandchildren Helen Mikell and Leah Mikell of Statesboro; sister Grace Greenway of Dahlonega; brother Terrell Holtzclaw (Nell) of Dahlonega; sisters-in-law Laura Mae Burt of Dawsonville and Lynn Burt of Dacula. A number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive, including special niece and caregiver, Vicki Woods.
The family wishes to express thanks to Hospice of Northeast Georgia for their loving and professional care, as well as to Dr. Stanley Jones for his enduring kindness and generosity to Helen.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Gary Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 13, 2021, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Floral donations are accepted, or contributions can be made to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1751 Wesley Chapel Road, Dahlonega, Georgia 30533. Due to the pandemic surge, the family requests that masks be worn and social distancing practiced both at the funeral home and the church.
