Lorena Yearwood Miller

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 5, 2021

Lorena Yearwood Miller, age 87, passed on to eternal life with her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2021.

Lorena was born July 26, 1934 and was a lifetime resident of Stephens County.  She was a member of Old Toccoa Baptist Church.  Her parents were the late Rev. David Paul Yearwood and Elizabeth Rider Yearwood.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Miller and by six brothers and two sisters.

Surviving family members include her two sons, David (Denisa) Miller, Roger (Imelda) Miller; daughter-in-law Bonita Barfield Miller; grandchildren, Stephanie Miller Van Voorst, Megan Miller Lewis, Justin Miller and Jason Miller; and great-grandchildren, Chloe Noel Lewis and Cooper Jesse Lewis; brother-in-law, Starling “Star” Miller; sister-in-law, Cora Lee Yearwood.

In earlier years Lorena worked at Wright Manufacturing as a seamstress, at Toccoa Casket Company and later retired from her private practice of cosmetology in 2004 after 33 years of practice during which she had many loyal patrons whom she regarded as family.  Her best friend in life was Agnes Beatty, mother of Jerrell Beatty. She also had an exceptional family relationship with Joan Savage Clary, who called each other “Sister”.

She enjoyed baking, crocheting, and traveling.  She loved her Lord, family and friends and was a very thoughtful, generous, and thankful person.  One unrelated person in particular that adopted Lorena as a mother after her own mother passed was Glenda Ernest who called her practically every day and brought Lorena countless wonderful meals.

In her active years, Lorena’s family could always count on her to cook their favorite cake, pie, or special treat on birthdays and other special occasions, even wedding cakes.  She was a great cook and loved getting her family together to enjoy special meals on special occasions.  Instead of saying “ good-bye” to end phone conversations, they would be ended by saying “Praise the Lord” to which she would respond “His love endures forever”!

The family will have a private graveside at Old Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty and The Reverend Roger Elrod officiating.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Peter Traudt, Jesse Lewis, Kenney Scott, Jimmy Howard, Mike Ivester and Keith Douce.
