Mr. Jon Loren Schwab, age 77, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Brightway Hospice, Emory Hospital in Atlanta with his wife by his side, following a 3 year battle with a very rare T- cell lymphoma.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Gainesville First United Methodist Church Chapel. His remains will lie in state in the chapel for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Reverend Carolyn Clifton and Father Jeremy Hammond will officiate.
Loren was born November 29, 1943 in Franklin, Pennsylvania to the late H. Lionel and Mary (Netzler) Schwab. Loren attended Franklin, PA High School and he and Rachel were able to travel to Franklin in August 2021 to attend his 60th high school reunion. After high school, Loren completed his education in Pittsburgh, PA and became a surgical technician. After working briefly in this field and at the encouragement of his Uncle Arden Schwab, Loren returned to school in Pittsburgh, to study a new and upcoming career path, computers. From there he joined his Uncle Arden and left Franklin for Florida. He ultimately worked in Lakeland and Atlanta for Watkins Trucking. Later he spent many years at Rollins, Inc. and later in his career he worked at various companies as a contractor in IT.
Loren and Rachel loved to travel and were blessed to be able to see many of the U.S. states and also travel to places like Germany, Austria, Hawaii, Ireland and Northern Ireland. They also loved to cruise and did Alaska, The Baltic, Panama Canal and New England.
Loren loved the mountains and he and Rachel were blessed to have a part-time home in western NC for many years. He also loved the many family get togethers, both for his family and also Rachel’s.
Loren was an active member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church, including the Aldersgate Sunday School Class and Gadabouts.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel (Freeman) Schwab; sister, Linda Shaffer (Ken), Erie PA; nephews, Scott Shaffer (Michelle), Glenshaw, PA; Brian Shaffer (Stephanie), Waterford, PA; niece, Jennifer Spitznogle, Erie, PA; great-nephews, Brandon Spitznogle and Brantley Shaffer; great-niece, Savannah Shaffer; step-son, Jeffery Hammond, Sr., Staten Island, NY; step-grandchildren, Father Jeremy Hammond, Bethesda, MD; Jeffrey Hammond Jr., Jason Hammond and Joshua Hammond, Madison, NJ. He is also survived by the family cat, Sox, who has been a loving companion for over 17 years.
