Lewis W. Coker

Obituary Date: Saturday, November 20, 2021

Lewis W. Coker went peacefully in his sleep to his heavenly home on November 20,2021 at the Phoenix Lodge in Gainesville, GA.

Lewis was born with a desire to learn, create, and explore the world.  As a young man, he joined the Marine Corp. and served during the Korean War.  After marrying Peggy, his beautiful redheaded wife, he worked at Southern Bell and achieved his educational goal of graduating from the University of Georgia.   They worked hard and dreamed big, eventually opening their own business, Coker Equipment Company. The Gainesville community was a wonderful place to raise a family.  Lewis was passionate about volunteering (Gainesville Rotary Man of the Year, 1991), flying planes, restoring cars, gardening with his wife, traveling the world, and trying his hand at real estate and business ventures.  Some of his happiest times were spent at their quaint cabin in the mountains of North Carolina where he often grilled for family and friends.  Many happy memories were made at that cabin!

He was married for 62 wonderful years to Peggy (Gibbs) Coker who preceded him in death.  He has three children, daughter Theresa Coker, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law Miles and Sharon Coker, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law Pat and Joe Schuebert, Gainesville.  He leaves behind his grandchildren April Sipieikin and her husband Alex, Brent Clanton and his wife Lindsey, Karson Coker and his wife Calah, Kanler Coker, Greyson Schuebert and his wife Emmy, Bryce Schuebert, Faith Hood and her husband Nick; great-grandchildren Zachary Harbin, Kohan and Collins Coker, J.D. Clanton, Gage and Jasper Sipieikin, and Emerson Schuebert; brothers, Horace R. Coker and wife Ruth, Leonard Theo Coker and wife Wynell,  sister-in-law Evelyn Coker and numerous other wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Keaton Coker, his parents Emory and Viola Coker, his brother Emory Coker, and his sister Barbara Sue Owens.

The family would like to thank the staff at Phoenix Lodge and special caregiver, Kaswana Daughtery, for all of their love and support over the years. Private family graveside service
will be held in Alta Vista Cemetery.
The celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at 3:00 at Lakewood Baptist Church.  Visitation will be immediately following the service at church.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Thumbs Up Mission at P.O. Box 2697 Gainesville, GA 30503 or online at thumbsupmission.org.
