Mattie Mae Jones

Mattie Mae Jones, age 82 of Cleveland, passed away Monday November 15, 2021 following an extended illness.

Mrs. Jones was born in Ringgold, GA on September 3, 1939 to the late Irene Schmitt. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Jones, brothers, Jim Schmitt and Fluke Schmitt and granddaughter Christy Dawn.

Mattie made her home in Cleveland, GA with her husband Fred and raised their kids and grandkids. She was a hard worker who worked her whole life and helped Pops run their peanut stand in their front yard. She was known to everyone as Granny. Granny was a kindhearted soul, who took care of everyone. She never met a stranger and loved everyone. She lived for her family and always put them first.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Tammy Montieth, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Sissy and Andy Simmons, Cleveland; several stepchildren and the baby Tammy Lance who helped take care of her; sister, Nancy Gregory, Cleveland; grandchildren, Kevin, Joseph, Abby, Cynthia, Jackie, Shelly, Clay and Tiana; great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Jaxin, Harper, Kyle, Kallie, Koby, Sierra, Isaiah, Maddie, Hunter and several step grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  

Funeral services are scheduled for 12 Noon Friday, November 19, 2021 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Layperson Ryan Pelphrey will officiate. Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
