Sarah Estelle Thompson Brewer

Obituary Date: Friday, November 5, 2021

Estelle Brewer entered into heaven on November 7, 2021 hearing the words spoken by Jesus in the Book of Matthew "Well done, good and faithful servant."  Estelle was born in Banks County, Georgia on February 15, 1926 to the late Rev. S.S. and Ola Adams Thompson.  She was the third of six children who were raised in the faith by her parents which prepared her for life of a preacher's wife.  She was the beloved wife of Rev. O.N. Brewer, who preceded her in death after 50 years of marriage.  Estelle was the mother of three children and beloved "Memaw" to one.

Estelle will be remembered for her service.  She served countless hours in the church; her daily life was one of service to others.  She was well known for her Sunday lunches, cakes, pies and tea cakes which were regular gifts to those in need of comfort.  Estelle spent many hours crocheting afghans for baby showers and wedding gifts.  These afghans graced every wedding, baby shower and birthday parties she attended.  She probably baked the cake that was served as well!

Estelle ministered alongside her husband for 40 years at Morningside Baptist, Community Baptist and Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Gainesville.  These churches created an important extended family.

Estelle possessed many skills which she passed along, cooking, baking, crocheting and canning vegetables.  She would sit on the front porch of her mother's  house with her sister Bobbie, daughters and niece.  They would work together to get the vegetables ready, then Estelle would can, pickle and preserve.  Many summer afternoons in her house were spent preparing jars to the sound of the pressure cooker and the smell of vinegar and Lemon Joy.

She loved her family.  Through her life, she was sustained by her faith and the knowledge that this life is temporary and Heaven is eternal.  Today she is rejoicing in the presence of her Savior.

Estelle was preceded in death by her parents Rev. and Mrs. S.S. Thompson, her husband Rev. O.N. Brewer, son and daughter-in-law, Leslie Neal "Bubba" Brewer and Debbie Woodring Brewer, brothers Paul and Billy Joe Thompson, and sister Ruth Thompson Baird.

She is survived by daughters Linda Brewer Godfrey and Kathy Brewer, Gainesville, GA; sister Bobbie Evans Powers, Gainesville, GA; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Elsie Thompson, Tucker, Ga; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Christi and Bob Miller, Gainesville, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday November 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  Rev. Steve Baker will officiate.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Doug Forrester officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center for their loving care.

Donations may be made to Calvary Children's Home, 1430 Lost Mountain Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127.
