Judy Ann Holmes Alsop passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. She was 80. Judy was born to Mary Ellen Hiatt and Ralph Jacob Holmes on February 25, 1941 in High Point, NC.
Judy graduated from Jamestown High School (now named Ragsdale High) and went on to complete her higher education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
After achieving her Bachelor of Arts, Judy chanced to meet her future husband Don Rodney Alsop as he and his LDS mission companion were having dinner with Judy's family. Don, being from the Salt Lake City area, was easy prey for Judy once he was released from his mission calling and returned to Utah where Judy was now teaching. Don and Judy were married and Sealed for Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on August 16th, 1965. Don and Judy love each other deeply. A mother of four children: Stephanie Christopherson (Michael); Steven Alsop (Lisa); Kevin Alsop (Danielle); and Kimberlie Hansen (Mitchell).
Don and Judy raised their family in a loving home in High Point, North Carolina and later moved to Marietta, Georgia. Judy achieved a Bachelors of Science from BYU and worked as an educator for several years before leaving education to raise her small family. Later, retirement took Don and Judy to Alpharetta, GA; Jamestown, NC; and finally Canton, GA.
Judy had many passions and hobbies, her favorite pastimes included: directing choir, playing piano and organ, serving others, teaching, and singing. Judy served in numerous callings and capacities within the LDS faith, some of which include Relief Society President, Primary President, Choir Director, and Organist.
She was loyal in service and commitment to her God, her Savior, Jesus Christ, her husband, her family, her friends, and her country. Judy had a firm and unwavering testimony that God lives, in the divinity of his son Jesus Christ, and the truthfulness of the restored gospel.
Judy is survived by her four children Stephanie, Steven, Kevin and Kimberlie; and their spouses Mike, Lisa, Danielle, and Mitch. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses Laura (Nate), Shari (Evan), James, Kylie (Andy), Megan, Amber, Jhenna, Terin, Christian (Brooklyn), Katelin, Logan, Easton, Connor, and Kellie; and her great grandchildren Adelyn, Stockton, Bennett and one on the way. Her surviving siblings are Brenda (David), and Ralph Richard "Rick" (Candy); and her in-laws Ruth, Larry (Loretta), and Janna (Tom), and countless close friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ellen and Ralph, and her husband of 56 years Don.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3459 East Cherokee Drive; Canton, GA 30115 and streamed online. For those attending the funeral services in-person, please exercise whatever personal precautions you deem necessary.
