James L. “JL” Wright

Obituary Date: Tuesday, October 19, 2021

James L. “JL” Wright, age 80 of Cornelia, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. 

James was born on September 11, 1941 in Alto, Georgia to the late Carvin Thomas and Lucy Mae Kimsey Wright. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilburn Wright; first wife, Beverly Page Wright; infant daughter, Pamela Kay Wright; son, Kenneth Scott Wright; granddaughter, Tiffany Amber Wright Gossette; and second wife, Victoria Genovese Wright. 

Survivors include his brothers, Bruce Wright (Kathy), Weldon Wright (Karen), and Tommy Wright (Suzanne); sister, Nadine Wright Thomas (Paul); grandson, Daniel Wright (Anna); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in Georgia as well as Maryland, where he lived from 1982 to 2019. 

James was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served eight years in the sixties as a Photographer and another four years in the eighties as an Operations Specialist. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post #7720 in Cornelia, Georgia. 

He retired from Westinghouse/ Northrup Grumman Corporation in Linthicum, Maryland, having worked in the security department. He had previously been a truck driver for Mayflower Van Lines, Bekins Van Lines, Bowman Transportation, Thurston Motor Lines, Ryder and the Army/ Air Force Exchange Service. He had also worked at Riegel Textiles as a weaver and then as a spinning frame fixer. He graduated from NGTVS as a watch repairman in the 1970s. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.

It was his wish to have no service in Georgia, but to be sent back to Maryland for a wake and services at the Singleton Funeral Home in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Following those services, he will be laid to rest with his wife, Victoria at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland located at 1080 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, Maryland.
