Eleanor Ann LaPlante

Obituary Date: Friday, October 15, 2021

Eleanor Ann LaPlante passed away peacefully on October 15, 2021.  She was born April 12, 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts to Angeline Gaudette Munn and Carl H. Munn who precede her in death as does her sister, Evelyn Morton Robertson of England.

She is survived by her devoted husband Richard Haynes LaPlante who was the love of her life since high school and who she was married to for 70 years; her children– Rick LaPlante, Jane Pierce, Susan LaPlante; their spouses – Sandy LaPLante, Scott Pierce, and Tracy Bleam; and her granddaughter, Hannaleigh Pierce.   She has many nephews and nieces.

Eleanor graduated with a degree in Education from Lowell State Teachers College and taught middle and high school English for many years in Waynesboro, VA and Clayton County Schools, GA.    She earned a Masters at the University of Virginia as well as an English as a Second Language Certificate, teaching ESL classes at night.  She loved music and art.  While raising her children, she taught piano from her home and took art lessons to become an accomplished oil painter.   She also was involved in her local community theatre taking parts in several plays.  She wrote poetry and created a book of poems shared with her family.

Eleanor really enjoyed her retirement through travel, through participating in the arts as well as through creating art.  She and her husband traveled the world touring England, Ireland, Russia, Italy, Spain, China, to name a few.   Favorite trips within the United States included historical sites and the state of Utah.  Serving as a volunteer at the Fox Theater and as a volunteer for Clark Howard in Atlanta added to the enthusiasm she expressed in printing a calling card stating Retired  and Loving It!  Eleanor explored extending her talents from landscape oil painting to painting gourds which she entered into several local arts and craft shows.

She will be missed but leaves behind a legacy of love she had for her husband, her family members, and her many students, setting an example to all to be independent, self-reliant, and explore in your lifetime all that is of interest to you.

Her choice was to be cremated with a private memorial.
