Hershel Jerome Winfrey, 79, of Gainesville, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 14, 2021 following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Monday, October 18, 2021 at Lakewood Baptist Church. Internment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lakewood Baptist Church from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, Monday, October 18, 2021 prior to the service.
Born on March 25, 1942 in Athens, Georgia, Jerome was the son of the late Ernest and Annie Ednis (Chester) Winfrey. He was a retired businessman in the poultry industry and honored with a Lifetime Membership to the Georgia Poultry Federation.
Jerome loved the Lord Jesus. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. He loved his family and was a faithful husband, selfless dad and devoted Papa. He cared for people and desired God’s best for them. Every day, he prayed for wisdom.
In addition to his parents, Jerome is preceded in death by his brothers, James Thomas, Calvin and Douglas Winfrey and sister, Marcilene Marshall; father and mother in law, Jack and Sara Davidson.
Jerome is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Davidson Winfrey; children, Kelly Winfrey, David and Melissa Winfrey, John and Valerie Winfrey, Thomas and Katie Winfrey; grandchildren, Davidson, Hallie, Arianna, Quinn, Madison, Charlie, Emma, Hazel and Paisley Winfrey; brother in law, Jack M. Davidson, Jr., sisters, Susan Richie, Joyce Edwards; sister in laws, Dixie Winfrey, Dolly Todd, Beth Davidson; and other relatives and friends.
With great appreciation we give thanks to the special care for the nurses and aides and social workers at Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Allison, Brenda, Jennifer, Kerry, Jackie, Gwen, and Jessica. We would not have wanted to walk this journey without them.
