James Raymond “Jim” Manley

Obituary Date: Wednesday, September 22, 2021

James Raymond “Jim” Manley, peacefully passed away in his sleep at his home in Gainesville, GA on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.  His entire immediate family joined him just a few days prior to his passing to celebrate his 95th birthday. The family is grateful for such a beautiful final memory.  We know that “Pop” is now reunited with Granny (Jeanette), his wife of sixty-six years, his parents Robert R. and Myrtle Manley, his brother, Stuart Manley, his sister, Bertie Andrews, and his grandson, Mitchell Manley.

Jim is survived by one sister, Mary Manley Allen, of Granbury, TX.  He was an exceptional father to two sons:  Scott (Cindi) Manley, of Roswell, GA, and Philip (Julie) Manley, of Auburn, GA.  Pop leaves four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren;  Kyle (Halle) Manley, and their sons, Cooper and Cameron, of Buford, GA; Jackson Manley, of Glen Burnie, MD; Jordan Manley (Joseph) Diaz, and their son, Cole, of Commerce, GA; and Hannah Manley (Coby) Durden, and their children, a daughter, Josie and son, Jack, also of Auburn, GA.

Mr. Manley was born and raised in Atlanta.  After graduating from Tech High, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served two years during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.  He then attended University of Georgia and graduated with a BCS in Accounting in 1950.  He married in 1951 and began his long career in the insurance field with Federated Mutual Insurance Company.  He would eventually retire as an executive with Chubb Insurance in 1990.  His retirement was spent with his beloved grandchildren, and traveling with Jeanette upon her retirement.  The Manley’s were always faithful church members in any community in which they lived in the metro Atlanta area.  Their last church home was Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church in Flowery Branch, GA.  A private memorial for immediate family will be scheduled at a later date.
