Douglas Malcomb Childs, 81 of Gainesville, GA passed away September 26, 2021 at home with his family.
Born in New Holland Georgia on December 23, 1939, he was the son of the late Barnum Childs and Louise Alton Hunter.
Mr. Childs is survived by his wife, Betty Harrison Childs of Gainesville; son Christopher (Teresa) Childs of Gainesville, son Kenny (Micky) Childs of Gainesville; Daughter Allison (Jesse) Turk of Dahlonega; grandchildren A.J. Berry, Danielle Berry, Finn Childs, Amelia Turk, and Elijah Turk; cousin Janice (Gene) Cobb of Gainesville; sister-in-law Barbara Polsfuss; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Childs was a 1959 graduate of East Hall High School. He then attended Truett-McConnell College and Piedmont College where he graduated with a Bachelors in Chemistry. He completed his Masters in Education at the University of Georgia. He served with the Georgia Army National Guard.
Some of his fondest memories are of his time playing basketball for the East Hall Vikings and coaching at White County High School, East Hall High School, and North Hall High School. He retired from North Hall High School in 2002. During his time teaching and coaching he inspired many students and athletes.
Doug was a member of Riverbend Baptist Church. He was devoted to his wife, Betty, of 57 years and took tremendous pride in his children. His grandchildren were the great delight in his life.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, 989 Riverside Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501 is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive visitors from 5-7 on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 and the funeral service will be at 3 pm on September 29, 2021
