Miss Brenda Lynne Buchanan, age 64, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on September 24, 2021 following her ongoing illness. She was born on July 23, 1957 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to the late Ovid Lee Buchanan and the late Helen Swartzlander Buchanan.
When she was born, she was born in the same hospital she would later train at when pursuing her career in the healthcare industry as a Registered Nurse. On the day she was born, the hospital only had one room that was equipped with air conditioning. Despite how badly Helen thought that room should have been hers during labor, it went to the Mayor's wife who was also in labor. As a child, she was a "Brownie", as well as a well-decorated Girl Scout. As a Nurse, Brenda helped many people, which was her passion. She worked in many settings and ultimately worked in hospice, prior to becoming a hospice patient herself. She enjoyed traveling to Haiti, where she helped build churches and clinics. Her volunteering was not confined to overseas efforts, for she was also an accomplished musician who would spend her downtime playing the organ or the piano for people at various nursing homes, churches and community centers. The highlight of Brenda's year every year came in mid to late October, when Gold Rush would come around. There at Gold Rush, she would wear a beautiful clown costume that her mother had designed and tailored, and paint children's faces. One thing held true throughout the duration of Brenda's life and that was the fact that she always put others before herself and would not rest until she felt like her day full of good deeds was done.
In addition to both her parents, she is preceded in death by all of her aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Buchanan; Cousins, Greg and Julie Fullwood, all of Dahlonega; as well as her favorite companion in the whole world, Sandy, her beagle. She also leaves behind an amazing family of friends and brothers and sisters in Christ, the congregation of Dahlonega Baptist Church.
It was Miss Buchanan's wish to be cremated. No services will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the funeral home in honor of Brenda to help offset cremation costs.
