Alex Harris, age 70 of Clarkesville, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
Born in Habersham County, Georgia on December 29, 1950, he was a son of the late William Henry, Sr. & Mary Louise “Doodle” Wood Harris. Alex was a 1969 graduate of South Habersham High School, a graduate of North Georgia Technical College, & served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired as an Engineering Supervisor with Habersham Electric Membership Corporation with over 36 years of dedicated service. Alex was the owner of River’s Edge on the Soque, where he was able to share his skills as a professional fly fisherman. He also worked as an advocate with the Healing Waters Ministry weekly, allowing veterans to experience fishing on the river. Most of all, Alex was a fine Christian man who was a true leader, a provider for his family, a loving husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend. He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church in Cornelia where he served as a Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, & enjoyed singing in the church choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Harris; his brother, Rev. Billy Harris, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Tina Cawthon & Teresa Stamey.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Tammy Trotter Harris of Clarkesville, GA; children, Holly Harris & Tony McClellon, Christy & Dan Keef, Jordan & Valerie Stamey, all of Clarkesville, GA; Zach & Heather Harris of Rome, GA; Jonathan & Brittney Stamey of Cornelia, GA; grandchildren, Carlin & Camryn Fricks, Katie & Kyler Keef, Jess & Harris Palmer, Trace, Hunter, & Taylor McClellon, Garrison Stamey, Brady Harris, Christian & Noah Minter, Balin Humphreys, Will Stamey, Nora Stamey, & Baby Jack Stamey (due in November), special niece, Haley Cawthon; brother & sister-in-law, Tony & Carmen Harris of Cornelia, GA; sister & brother-in-law, Denise & Avery Nix of Clarkesville, GA; sister-in-law, Susan Harris of Cornelia, GA; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Jim & Betty Trotter of Clarkesville, GA; several special nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, as well an “Honorary Papa” to many children at church & on the river.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with Rev. Mike Ross & Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Interment will follow at Amy’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Thursday prior to the service.
