Ethelene Thomas Dorsey

Ethelene Thomas Dorsey was born on February 14, 1922, in Hall County, GA to Flora Mae Griffin Thomas and Robert Thomas from Hall County, GA. Ethelene lived his entire life in north Georgia.

Ethelene Dorsey is survived by her son, Bradley Hugh Dorsey, Sr., and her daughter in-law Cindy McCormick Dorsey, of Gainesville, GA.  Ethelene has two grandsons, Bradley Hugh Dorsey, Jr. and his wife Brandi of Forsyth County, GA who are the parents of Ethelene’s two great grandsons Braxton and Braelen and one great granddaughter Harper.  Ethelene’s second grandson Christopher Edward Dorsey and his wife Lyndsay live in Gwinnett County, GA.

Ethelene Dorsey was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Hugh Major Dorsey, her mother, Flora Mae Griffin Thomas, her father, Robert Thomas, her stepmother Lessie Thomas, her sister Coreen Thomas Faison and brother Joseph Thomas. Other family members were her late brothers Jimmy Thomas, Paul Thomas, David Thomas, John Thomas. Her remaining stepsisters are Joanna Scaglione, Dolly Loggins, Rachael Hamilton, Ruth Russel, Mary Gilfilian and Naomi Dunn.

Ethelene married Hugh Major Dorsey on December 17, 1942 in Hall County, GA. Very shortly after they were married, Hugh deployed overseas to serve in World War II.

While Ethelene’s husband was serving in the Army during World War II, Ethelene worked at the Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA assigned work on the B-29 Bomber. She also worked on Liberty Ships in 1942 - 1944 in the Brunswick Shipyard, Brunswick, GA.

After settling down in Clarkston, GA, Ethelene worked as a Sales Associate at Belk, Decatur, GA.

Ethelene and Hugh Dorsey resided in Clarkston, GA from 1952 until 1993 where they were members of the Clarkston United Methodist Church. In 1993 Ethelene and Hugh retired to their home on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA where they are members of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Ethelene will be laid to rest at Mossy Creek United Methodist Church memorial garden in Cleveland, GA. Private funeral services will be held at her grave site. Chaplin Danny Park, her hospice minister, will preside at her funeral service.
