Donald G. Thomas

Barrett Funeral Home announces for the Thomas Family the passing of Mr. Donald G. Thomas, age 78, of Marietta, formerly of Cleveland.  Mr. Thomas passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Donald was born on October 1, 1942 in Cleveland, Georgia to the late Charlie and Myrtie Bell Harper Thomas of Cleveland.  He was the eldest of 6 boys.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Heidi Thomas.  After graduation from White County High School, Donald attended Georgia Tech.  He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army National Guard from 1964-1970.  Donald retired from BellSouth after 42 years of faithful service.

He was considered a military weapons expert and helped in the development of many of the weapons used by Special Forces and Seal Teams.  He wrote and published many books on military weaponry and silencers. 

Survivors include his son Paul (Kendra) Thomas; daughter, Jackie (Joe) Beauchemin; Grandchildren, Gabriel and Ian Boyd, Kendra Thomas; brothers and sisters-in-law, all of Cleveland:  William (Louise) Thomas, Richard (Frances) Thomas, Roy (Bobbie) Thomas, Dennis (Patsy) Thomas, Charlie (Barbara) Thomas.

A Memorial Service will be held at Southcare Cremation and Funeral Society in Marietta, GA on Friday, September 24 at 10:30 am.  A graveside service will follow at Mt. View Baptist Church at 2:00 pm. Full Military Honors will be provided by the White County Honor Guard.
