Mr. Paul Ervin McAfee, age 76, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021.
Ervin was born on September 27, 1944, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late George Ervin and Tetzel Wilder McAfee of Cleveland. He was a retired teacher, having taught youthful offenders at Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute for 34 years. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1968 to 1971, serving in Vietnam between 1969 and 1970 with the 101st Airborne Division as a combat medic.
He also enjoyed working as a poll worker for our county elections for several years.
He was a member and deacon of Mt. Yonah Baptist Church serving in several areas.
Ervin enjoyed antique vehicles along side his dad George, son David, grandson Nathaniel and his brothers Cleve and Jerry. He enjoyed car shows, Nascar racing, Braves baseball and traveling to different places with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several family members, including sister-in-law, Juanita McAfee; sister-in-law, RayAnn Reed and her husband H.E. (Ed), sister-in-law, Bonnell Nix Cox and her husband Garnett, sister-in-law, Verdell Nix Woodall and her husband Rogers.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sandra Nix McAfee, Cleveland; son, David (Dawn) McAfee, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Erin (Jamie) Austin, Cleveland; grandchildren, Harley McAfee, Camryn McAfee, McKayla Austin, Jaycelin Austin, Nathaniel Austin; great-grandchildren, Kolson and Maylee Rae Wheeler; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cleve (Pat) McAfee and Jerry (Pam) McAfee; sister-in-law, Judy (Greg) Lawson, all of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Geneva Carroll, Snellville; sister-in-law, Linda (Thomas) Kanady, Ft. Worth Texas; nieces, Shelley (Eric) Bouchard and Suzette McAfee, Cleveland; niece, Emily (Matt) Pruitt, Cleveland; nephew, Jeremy (Brittany) McAfee, Cleveland; along with other nieces, nephews and cousins from across the country.
Celebration of life services are scheduled for 3 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2021 at Mt. Yonah Baptist Church. Rev. Doug Merck, Rev. Ross Roberts and Rev. Marc Turner will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2021 at Mt. Yonah Baptist Church, prior to the service.
