Royce Winter

Obituary Date: Thursday, September 16, 2021

Reverend Royce Winter, age 76, went to his Heavenly Home on September 16, 2021.

 

Royce was born on May 31, 1945, to the late Zack and Mattie Line Howard Winters. He attended Airline Elementary and East Hall High School. He was a member of the Sardis Oddfellow Lodge # 388 and a Master Mason in Masonic Lodge # 715.

 

Royce was retired from Gainesville Iron Works and Steven’s Steel Company and started his own company in structural steel in the 1970’s. He was a metal building contractor and during the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s and constructed many of the structural steel buildings in Gainesville and Northeast Georgia.

 

Royce was ordained into the ministry on November 26, 1975, and served his Lord and savior in all of his endeavors faithfully for more than 45 years. He was pastor of Welcome Home Baptist Church. Chestatee Baptist Church, Riverside Baptist Church and lastly Double Springs Baptist Church.

 

He married the love of his life, Linda Segars, on November 1, 1963 and loved her unconditionally for what would have been 58 years on November 1st.

 

Royce was a man of many titles, Pastor, Husband, Daddy, Pa Papa, Brother, Uncle Royce, Cousin and Friend to all. He had a huge smile and a great sense of humor.

 

He leaves behind to honor his legacy, his loving wife Linda Segars Winters; son, Wayne Winters; daughters, Deanna Winters Thomas and Cindy Winters Garmon. His granddaughters, Heather “Niki” Hudgins (Bart), Hannah Garmon (fiancé Dakota Davy) and Haley Garmon. He also leaves behind the lights of his life, his great grandchildren, Madelynn Hudgins, and new addition to his life twin grandsons Sawyer and Hunter Hudgins. Sisters and brothers in law, Brenda and Leon Williams and Barbara and Chris Cheeley; nephews and nieces who lovingly called him Uncle Roycey. Special friends Wendell and Linda Sloan and many cousins and friends.

 

Pallbearers Bart Hudgins, Jason Gee, Brian Williams, Robert Williams, Sammy Hudgins and Dakota Davy. Honorary Pallbearers, Kelvin Sloan, Jimmy Segars, Joshua Cheeley and Eric Broome. The family has requested that the local ministers serve as Honorary Pallbearers and assemble at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2021.

 

The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. with Reverend Grady White and Reverend Danny Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
