Elizabeth "Betty" Hinely Dryden

Elizabeth “Betty” Hinely Dryden, 90, of Buford, GA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and friends on September 11, 2021. A private funeral service will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Betty’s great nephew, Pastor Bob Hinely will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. Private visitation will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 12:30 PM at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Hinely Dryden was born in Adams Run, SC to parents, Alonzo and Blanche Hinely on July 13, 1931. Betty went to Savannah High School and graduated in 1949. She worked at Hunter Army Airforce Base in Savannah, GA where she met and married the love of her life, William “Bill” Roynald Dryden in 1951. They moved to Atlanta and Betty worked for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for 32 years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, family gatherings and loved playing the piano at church for many years. She was involved in her church youth group as chaperone for numerous activities and trips.

Betty is survived by her sons, William Keith Dryden (Vicki & daughter, Sara), and Craig Dryden (Kelly); daughter, Dena Dryden; granddaughters, Elizabeth Smith (Ken), Dawn Rollins (Travis), and their mother, Marsha Dryden, and granddaughter, Tori Dryden; grandson, Tyler Dryden; great grandchildren, Aeryn, Adriana, Alex, Ansley, Jaxon, and Daxton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Dryden; parents, Alonzo and Blanche Hinely; brothers, Robert Hinely and Ralph Hinely; many other extended family members.

Memorial donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Junior Jazz Foundation. The Junior Jazz Foundation raises funds for new equipment, instruments, and scholarships for interested and promising young students. Their hope is that we can gain the next generation of “Betty” that can learn and love the piano and music.
