Bobby Gene Buice, Sr., 88, a lifelong resident of Forsyth County, passed in peace on September 14, 2021.
Bob was born May 25, 1933, to the late Dossie and Irene Buice. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, W.D Buice, Jr. and Evelyn Hansard; his wife, Catherine Wheelus Buice of 62 years of marriage; his son, Bobby Buice, Jr.; and his great grandson, William Fagan, III.
Bob is survived by his children, Kathy (Terry) Mathis, Debbie (Wayne) Bagley, Sandy (Alexis) Buice, daughter-in-law, Malissa Buice; his brother, Phillip (Nancy) Buice; his grandchildren, Deana (Bill) Fagan, Kelly (Stephanie) Mathis, Kristy (Kraig) Cantlin, Bethany (William) Cooke, Julie Gayle, Brent Bagley, Corey Buice, Tre Buice; his great-grandchildren, Caleb Fagan, Wyatt Cooke, Kaylee Cantlin, Owen Cooke, Cody Gayle, Aiden Buice, Stella Mathis, Caroline Cooke, and Greer Cantlin; special friend, Mike Gayle, and further survived by many other family members and friends.
Bob loved the Lord and accepted Jesus as his savior at a young age. His faith was embodied by his servant heart and was demonstrated by his love of the Word and in bearing the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The most loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Bob was so proud of each of his “babies”. Even in his last days, after seeing most of those names above standing vigil by his bed, his nurse said, “So much love in this room.” His laugh was like none other, easily given and when you heard it, you couldn’t help but smile. He was a good-natured man, known to be funny and silly. His grandchildren affectionately called him “Papa Meathead”. He was a blessing and a friend to many and would often say, “You can’t outgive God”. If he heard of someone in need, he didn’t hesitate to help.
Bob was a Veteran, having served in the US Army from 1952 -1954. He then went to work at General Motors, becoming a supervisor and eventually retiring from the company after 30 years. In retirement he loved to travel, watch NASCAR races and was always excited to have something good to eat. He was happiest when his family was together for a meal and fellowship.
Bob was an ordained deacon at Sharon Baptist Church where he and his wife Catherine raised their family following generations of his family before him. In recent years, Bob worshipped at Brookwood Baptist Church where he enjoyed the men’s fellowship group, Church Camps and the children’s programs including Kids for Christ and Vacation Bible School.
The funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Sawnee View Gardens. There will be a picnic supper immediately following and the family invites friends to stay for visitation. Out of an abundance of caution, masks are encouraged at the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Brookwood Baptist Church Vacation Bible School fund online at www.brookwoodbaptistchurch.org or mailed to 2530 Pine Grove Road, Cumming, GA 30041.
