Rev. William “Billy” Poole

Obituary Date: Friday, September 10, 2021
Rev. William “Billy” Poole, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 10, 2021 after a nine month battle with lung cancer.  He was surrounded by his loving family.

The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday, September 12th from 2:00 PM – 4:00PM and 6:00PM – 8:00PM.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 13th at Timber Ridge Baptist Church.  Rev. Ronnie Dockery, Rev. Kenneth McEntire, Rev. Matt Pruitt, and Rev. Ronald Seabolt will officiate.  Interment will follow at White Hall Baptist Church Cemetery.

A lifetime resident of Hall County, Billy was born November 8, 1938 and the youngest son of Rev. Henry Poole and Amanda “Mandy” (Hawkins) Poole.  He graduated from Lula High School in 1956 (where he was voted “Most Loyal”) before serving the country he loved so very much for four years in the US Air Force.  After more than 20 years of service, he retired from Hall County Government as a Road Maintenance Supervisor.  He was also a member of the Murrayville Masonic Lodge and Sardis Oddfellow Lodge.

Billy lived a life obedient to the Lord.  In 1970, he was ordained into the ministry at Yellow Creek Baptist Church.  For more than 50 years, he faithfully preached the Gospel throughout Northeast Georgia while pastoring eight different churches and helping with hundreds of revivals.  He always served with a joyful spirit and vibrant personality and was adored by those in his congregation.  He was strong in his faith and lived by the truth both privately and publicly.  He was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church.

As a result of his humble upbringing, Billy enjoyed the simple things in life and had an uncanny ability to find happiness in daily activities.  He enjoyed watching the Braves, completing the daily crossword puzzle, working in his garden, reading his Bible, eating cornbread and buttermilk, seeing his grandchildren, wearing overalls, sitting in the swing, playing checkers, drinking black coffee, following weather patterns, and teasing everyone around him.  He enjoyed daily lunches at Reid’s, early morning walks on the beach, and fishing trips with his son and grandson.

Quick with a joke and an infectious laugh, he always enjoyed time spent with friends and family.  Nothing brought him more joy than a visit from one of his four grandchildren.   He loved life, his family, his friends, his church, and Jesus.

In addition to his mother and father, Billy is preceded in death by seven siblings;  Dixie Poole, Helen Poole Hawkins, Nellie Poole Sloan, Boyd Poole, Edna McEntire, Ben Poole, Sally Poole Miller.

Billy was a loving and dedicated husband of 62 years to his wife Marie (Brown) Poole whom he loved with all his heart.  Also left to honor and remember his love are his children:  son and daughter-in-law William David and Robin Poole; daughter Amy (Poole) Chosewood.  Grand Daddy had four grandchildren that always brought the biggest grin to his face - Jacob Poole, Michael Chosewood, Abby Chosewood, and Millie Kate Chosewood.

He is also survived by one older brother, Ed Poole and a very special niece Susan (Miller) Black.

Billy was uncle, great uncle, great-great uncle, and great-great-great uncle to more than 125 nieces and nephews.   A host of other family members and friends survive.

Thank you to Dr. Andrew Johnson, Dr. Shane Bussler, and the entire Hospice of NGMC team. Also, thank you to Marion Merck, Kevin Wetzel, and Kasey McEntire for the love they’ve shown during this most difficult time.  Billy was humble. gracious, and kind; a wonderful husband, father, grand daddy, and friend who loved unconditionally.  He is now in the presence of his savior, but he will live in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a Bible based church of your choice or the North Georgia Food Bank in his memory.

The family has requested that all area ministers serve as honorary pallbearers and please assemble at the church by 2:30 PM on Monday, September 13th.
