Mrs. Sharon (Hester) Thompson, a life-long resident of Gainesville, GA, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2021 at the age of 65. She was born on July 25, 1956 in Gainesville, GA to Mrs. Sara Griffith and the late Henry Hester. She attended Fair Street Elementary and was a proud graduate of Gainesville High School. She started working at the tender age of 14 years old for many years in the poultry industry. If you knew Sharon, you knew that she was a very passionate person, full of life, personality and a contagious laugh! Those that encountered her enjoyed a good laugh, some good food, and when warranted, a good ‘gathering’ if she had to. Her favorite leisure was in the fellowship of her closest family, friends and loved ones. She was best known for her dancing and smile. Sharon is preceded in death by her late husband, Marcus Thompson, her father, Henry Hester; seven brothers: Marvin Hester, Harold Curry, Leon Hester, Loring Hester, Milton Hester, Charles Hester, Edward Hester, and two sisters: Rosie “Mae” Harris and Dixie Hester. She is survived by her loving mother, Sara Griffith of Gainesville, GA; and beloved children, two daughters: Kimberly (James) Johnson of Lithonia, GA and Collette (Jaymen) Thompson of Flowery Branch, GA; one son: Kendrick “Rico” Lyles of Flowery Branch, GA; six loving grandchildren: Destiny Johnson, Jalen Johnson, Jasiah Lyles, Calayah Stowers, Jaliyah Stowers, and Jayari Stowers; two brothers: Joseph (Georgia) Hill of Gillsville, GA; Joe Hester of Athens, GA; six sisters: Venita Pope of Gainesville, GA; Arlissa (Julius) Thomas of Cleveland, GA; Trina Lipscomb of Stone Mountain, GA; Adrian Usher of Lula, GA; Jessie Harris of Gillsville, GA; Carolyn Hester of Gainesville, GA; a host of nieces and nephews who adored her, and a life-long partner and special friend, Terry Phillips. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 19th between the hours of 12-4pm. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
