The journey of Mrs. Ida Marie Pierce Wise on the side of heaven’s gate began on Sunday, January 20, 1929, when she was born to the late Charlie and Gussie (Randolph) Pierce. On Monday, September 6,2021, she slept peacefully onto the other side of heaven’s gate.
A native of Banks County, Ida moved to Atlanta, Georgia after finishing high school where she resided for 52 years. While in Atlanta, she was employed with the Atlanta Transit Authority MARTA for 31 years. She was a lifelong member of the Black Springs Baptist Church in Commerce, Ga; however, while living in Atlanta she was under the watch care of the Simpson Road Baptist Church. One her visits to see family in Gainesville, Georgia it would seem like Christmas. “Lucy” as she was affectionately known, would come bearing gifts. Her loving, Kind Heart was always showering her family with love. “I Love You” was often and you felt her love. She was a giver, and it wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family. A lover of music, travel, and shopping along with being an avid reader of books are just a few of the things that made her sparkle. Memories of her include being neat, and never without her lipstick.
A marriage to the late Lonnie Wise produced an only daughter, Sallie Ann Wise Glasper who preceded her death. Sister: Alice Pierce, Melba Pierce, Ruby Brawner; Brothers: John D. Pierce and Charles M. Pierce also preceded her in death.
Lucy’s loving spirit was shared by all who came to know her. Debra Cousin is a longtime sister friend, and she lovingly named Andreka Blackwell granddaughter, and Sylvia Milner daughter.
As Lucy’s journey started to round the bend, she had wonderful caregivers her sister Odessa Richie, and nieces Jane Pierce, Khylisha Pierce, Alicia Wright and Gloria McCluskey. On Many occasions her baby sister Betty Chester cooked her favorite meals. Her grandson Ken was always on hand to accompany her on nights when she had hospital stays. As she got closer to the edge of the Jordan River she was welcomed into the home of a special niece, Peggy (Henry) and Sheena Johnson. It took a village to make her last days special. Nephews Teffany (Janice) and Kristopher Pierce often make her laugh and kept her feet and nails pretty.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted Son- in- Love, Thomas Glasper, Gainesville, Georgia; Grandsons: Maurice (Deborah) Wise, Kenneth Wise Sr., Raphael (Shannon) Wise, and Kevin (Laura) Bailey; nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; Sister: Odessa Richie, Lula Bell Piece, Frances Wiley, and Betty Chester all of Gainesville, Georgia. A host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
