Debra Walker Lusk

Obituary Date: Thursday, September 2, 2021

 

Debra Diane Walker Lusk, age 57, of Murrayville, Georgia, passed peacefully from this life to her eternal home in heaven on September 2, 2021, surrounded by her family.

 

Debbie was born in Gainesville, Georgia, living most of her life in Hall and Lumpkin counties.  She went to Maranatha Christian Academy, Tennessee Temple, and also attended Bob Jones University.

 

Her friends and family knew her as a kind and resilient individual with the gift of generosity, numerous times providing meals, funds, whatever someone needed.   After years of dedicated training, Debbie earned her Black Belt in Karate.  For several years, she worked for Coral Construction out of Dallas, Texas, as a construction superintendent for commercial building jobs in many of our United States and in Puerto Rico.  Following that, her 25-year career as a Train Engineer with Norfolk Southern was cut short in 2020 when cancer was discovered.

 

The family who are left behind with memories of her are her husband of 22 years, Fred Lusk of Murrayville; her sister & brother-in-law, Amanda (Van) Byars of North Carolina; brothers, Brandon & Dameon Smith of North Carolina; her father and step-mother, Barry (Betty) Walker of Gainesville;  Uncle, Brad (Carole) Walker of Dahlonega; brothers-in-law, Richard Lusk of Decatur, and David Lusk of Dacula; sister-in-law, Rebecca Lusk of Stone Mountain; step-daughters, Crystal (Brian) Sleeper of Statham, Georgia, Brianne (Marc) Womack of Shiloh, Georgia, seven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Jones Walker; maternal grandparents, Y.D. and Ella Jones, and paternal grandparents, Bud and Billie Walker. 

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA.

 

Please wear a mask to attend.

 

Rev. Mark Caruana will officiate.

 

Interment will follow in Wahoo Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

 

The family will receive friends at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7; and again from 11:00 AM until service hour on Wednesday, September 8.
