Heidi Joanne Lamb Groce sadly left this world on Friday, August 27, 2021, just having celebrated her 49th birthday, after fighting covid pneumonia for several weeks in the ICU at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.
Heidi was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 7, 1972. She lived in the metro Atlanta area most of her life, and finally settled in Cleveland in the early 2000s where she met her husband, George Groce, and became a very integral part of our local community from her work with the Helen Police Department. Heidi has worked for the city of Helen’s police department for almost 20 years making many friends in the small community in her role as communications/IT officer.
She is survived by her husband, George Groce of Cleveland, sons, Crawford Groce & Keith Groce, her mother & step-father, Mary & Ray Waters of Parker, Florida, her father & step-mother, Herb & Susan Lamb of Cleveland, her in-laws, Keith & Tammy Groce of Blairsville, GA, her sister, Heather Sinyard of Cleveland, her brothers, Herb Lamb of Sugar Hill, GA & Heath Lamb of Cleveland, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins & in-laws.
Heidi is preceded in death by all of her grandparents, John & Betty Rodgers of Warren, PA & Herb & Dorothy Lamb of Warren, OH, her niece, Karri Alonso along with several aunts & uncles.
Heidi’s time here with us was entirely too short. She was loved by many and cared deeply for her family, friends and community. She was incredibly active in the Currahee District for the Boy Scouts of America and helped to coordinate the annual community activities for Helen Police Department like the annual Halloween celebration, White Christmas and more. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, Heidi’s family is asking that donations in her memory be made to the Boy Scouts of America Currahee District Northeast Georgia Council by contacting Ian Nesbitt at 706-968-0289, the Helen Police Department Community Fund by contacting Helen PD at 706-878-2722, or to a charity of your choice.
Services for Heidi will take place on Thursday, September 9th at Barrett's Funeral Home in Cleveland, GA with visitation at 1PM and services at 2PM. A Celebration of Life BBQ will take place on Sunday, September 12th at 3pm in Helen at the pavilion on Edelweiss Strasse, directly across the street from Bigg Daddy's.
