Freddie Yvonne McFarlin Barnes, 85, of the New Bethel community passed away Saturday morning, August 28, 2021, at her home.
Born June 9, 1936, Carnesville, she was the daughter of Fred Hurston and Alice Cordia Ayers McFarlin. She was the widow of the late Eugene Barnes. She was the daughter-in-lawof the late Leonard R. and Reba Garrison Barnes; the sister-in-law of the late Swayne and Carol Barnes, George and Peggy Barnes, and Joseph and Betty Barnes; and was the mother-in-law of the late Roger Thurmond; and was best friends of the late Ruby Dalrymple Jameson and the late Geneva Carter Moore. She was a homemaker, a wonderful cook, and a loving mother and grandmother. She helped start the Double Churches Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. A member of New Bethel Baptist Church for over 70 years, she was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, and was church custodian. She was on the church food committee, and loved taking trips with senior adults.
She is survived by daughter Susan Barnes Thurmond and Oscar Deleon; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Tracey Barnes; five grandchildren, Michael Hallford, Dustin Hallford, Jeremy and Brittainy Barnes, Corey Barnes, and Devin Thurmond; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Jacey, and Lilah; sister and brother-in-law, Billy and Gloria Stovall, Toccoa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Carolyn Barnes, Eastanollee; and Bonnie and Leon Ivey, Dallas, Ga; and one loving uncle, Harold Jameson.
Services will be 7pm Monday evening at the B D Ginn Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tommy Childress, Rev. Tony Byrd, and Rev. Stacy Penland. Interment will be Tuesday morning at New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
