Ed "Red" Helton

Mr. Ed “Red” Helton age 96 of Gainesville, Ga. died Sunday August 22, 2021 in Gainesville, Ga.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 pm Wednesday August 25, 2021 at the Little Davenport Chapel, the Rev. Mike Smith will officiate and burial will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tuesday from 4 to 8 pm and the day of the service from 12 pm till the service hour.

Mr. Helton was a native and lifetime resident of Gainesville, Ga. was a veteran having served in the US Navy during WW II as well as a member of the US Air Force during the Korean war. He was a longtime member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge, earning his 33rd degree with the Scottish Rite and he was Past Grand Commander of The State of Georgia Masons. Mr. Helton was of the Baptist faith having been an active member for many years with Mount Vernon Baptist Church. In retirement he enjoyed serving his community by volunteering with The N. E. Georgia Medical Center, lifeline and Meals on Wheels. He was preceded in death by his wife – Tommie Jean Whitmire Helton and his parents – Jess H. and Fair Ashe Helton.

Survivors include his two daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Danny Deyton and Connie and Mike Bradley. A son and his wife, Eddie and Pat Helton. 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.
