Scott Begnaud

Obituary Date: Saturday, August 21, 2021

Scott Begnaud, 75, of Gainesville passed away peacefully Saturday, August 21, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 19th, 1946 in Lafayette LA, the son of Will Joseph and Annie Bernard Begnaud, brother of the late Will, Barbara, and Thomas Begnaud. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Anne DeGange Begnaud, his children Lauren (Chandler), Will (Meg), and granddaughter Amelia.  He is also survived by two brothers, Bill (Sue) of Houston, TX, and Larry (Trish) of Austin, TX, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

Scott was anything if not authentic. A fiery, loving soul, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a visionary. He was an accomplished Garden and Interior Designer. Involved with plants since he was 15 years old, Scott was a Master Gardener and member of the Hydrangea Society, Hosta Society, and Georgia Perennial Plant Association. He was also an Air Force Veteran and served as a staff sergeant and medic.

He was a gifted artist, best known for his mixed media angels and hand-cast paper artwork. The host of many “Gumbo Parties” and an excellent friend, Scott was feisty in spirit and loyal to the bone; passionate and generous, and above all, a Renaissance Man.  He was not afraid of forging true connections in life and always cherished those he connected with and loved. Surface level was not something Scott was interested in, and the deep friendships he made are proof of his capacity to love and the love he received in return.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shon Peppers officiating. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside Chapel on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Contributions in Scott’s memory can be made to the Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation, a charity that he believed in.

Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Dr. is in charge of arrangements.
