William Lavern Cox

Mr. William Lavern Cox, age 90 of Toccoa passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at his residence.

A son of the late William Calvin Cox and Selena Mae Ginn Cox, he was born August 22, 1930 in Madison County, Georgia having lived most of his life in Stephens County, Georgia.  He was a 1950 graduate of Toccoa High School, retired from USDA with 31 years of service and retired from the Georgia National Guard with 39 years of service.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, worked in the nursery department for 50 plus years and a member of the Baptist Men’s Brotherhood.  He was a former member of the Toccoa Jaycees and the Stephens County Tax Equalization Board.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Cox.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years of the home, Betty Edge Cox; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kay Cox and David and Lynn Cox both of Toccoa; grandchildren, Hayley Cox and fiancée Aaron Redman, Will and Amy Cox, Kevin and Autumn Cox, Courtney and Tip Johnson, Claire and Grant Segars; great-grandchildren, D B and Jo Johnson, Carter Cox, Warner Cox and Gabe Segars; a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private graveside service at Stephens Memorial Gardens with The Reverend David Ritcey officiating.  Military Honors will be by the Georgia National Guard Honor Guard.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Will Cox, Kevin Cox, Tip Johnson, Grant Segars, Aaron Redman and Joe Sewell.

Flowers are to be omitted.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. 1720 Epps Bridge Parkway, Suite 108-383, Athens, Georgia 30606 or to the First Baptist Church- Nursery Department, 475 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mr. William Lavern Cox.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and the Hillcrest Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. William Lavern Cox.
