Laura Gail Johnson-Lovell

Obituary Date: Monday, August 16, 2021

Laura Gail Johnson-Lovell, age 68, passed away on July 19, 2021 while vacationing in Missouri after a courageous battle with COVID-19.

Gail is survived by her husband, James Lovell; her children, Jeffrey Scott Lowery (Janna); Shannon Lowery Vice (Jim); grandchildren, Brandtley Scott Lowery, Braxton Garner Lowery, Taylor Lawrence Dempsey, and Carson Lee Dempsey. She was also loved by her stepchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lois Johnson, and sister Carolyn Johnson Ford all from Sumiton, AL.

Gail was born in Aberdeen, MS and graduated from Minor High School in Birmingham, AL, Class of 1971, and went on to earn her nursing degree from Jefferson State Community College.

She practiced nursing in multiple settings throughout her career, some of which included the Emergency Room at Carraway Methodist Medical Center, the American Red Cross, and Occupational Health for Cobb/Tyson.

Gail had a zest for life and enjoyed traveling, the great outdoors, local community activities, and her beloved rescue dog, Camp. However, her greatest accomplishment
was her children and she loved them fiercely. Gail was fortunate enough to have received a liver transplant in 2019 and remained extremely grateful for this gift of life someone bestowed upon her.

She was forever compassionate about organ donation and supported many other people along their journey as recipients.

The family will receive friends in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 21st from 12 until 2pm at Kaya Vineyard and Winery 5400 Town Creek Road Dahlonega, GA Cottage #4-Elohi.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for all the nursing staff, physicians, and support personnel at Piedmont Hospital Transplant Institute in Atlanta, GA and Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an organ transplant charity, American Red Cross, or a charity of your choice. In her memory, please get vaccinated for COVID-19 as it does save lives.
