Ray H. Sexton

Obituary Date: Tuesday, August 3, 2021

Ray H. Sexton, age 90, of Buford, GA passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Lee Sexton; son-in-law, Ebb Scott;  parents, Glen and Ether Barnett Sexton; sister, Dorothy Jean Bagwell; brother, Ralph Sexton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Luke and Mozelle Harrison.  He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlotte Harrison Sexton, Buford, GA; daughter, Anita Sexton Scott, Hoschton, GA; grandsons, Andrew L. and Brook Scott, Hoschton, GA, Nathan and Christy Scott, Braselton, GA;

great-grandchildren, Avery, Rylee, Sadie Scott; sister, Janis Sexton Thomas and husband Bill Thomas, Cumming, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tony and Glenda Harrison, Sugar Hill, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Mr. Sexton was born on April 12, 1931 in Cumming, GA in the Sharon Community.  He was a 1949 graduate of Forsyth County High School, Cumming, GA.  Mr. Sexton was retired from General Motors Assembly Plant after a number of years of service.  He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 10.  He was also a long-time member of Harmony Baptist Church in Buford, GA.  Ray was a former Gwinnett County Policeman and served on the Buford Volunteer Fire Department for a long time.  Mr. Sexton and his wife, Charlotte,  operated Ray’s Crossroad Grocery Store for many years.   In his later years, he was “on Staff” at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, GA  from 2003 to 2019 where is remembered as a wonderful worker.  Ray was a Mason and member of Buford Masonic Lodge 292 F.A.M., member of Royal Arch, Taylor Chapter,

No. 48.  He was a Shriner and member of Yarrab Temple in Atlanta.  He recently received his 60 year pin from Buford Masonic Lodge 292.  Ray and Charlotte enjoyed camping along with bluegrass music as they traveled far and near.  He enjoyed gardening and keeping his lawn immaculate.  Another thing he loved was Nascar and entertaining friends and family in “The Chickenhouse” which is like a museum.  His favorite Nascar driver was Bill Elliott.  Ray also enjoyed going to the Everett Music Barn in Suwanee, GA on Saturday nights to hear his beloved Bluegrass and Southern Gospel Music: just to name a few, The Lewis Family from Lincolnton, GA and Jerry and Sheri Easter.  He was a member of Sherwoods Coffee Club and Hardees and Bojangles Breakfast Club. And not last on the list, he enjoyed spending time at Willards Wrecker Service.  A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 6, 2021 in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Ferguson and Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating.  Interment will be held at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens following the Service with Masonic Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Flanigan’s Funeral Home and again from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday prior to the Service.
