Emma Lillian Winter Plauché 105, of Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Lake Charles and Lafayette, Louisiana, passed gently into the arms of her Savior August 1, 2021.
Mrs. Plauché was born on a farm in Wagar, Alabama to Frank C. Winter and Sara Ida McClure Winter. She moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana as a young child where her father ran a mercantile business. She began ballet lessons at an early age with her mother making all her costumes. She attended Lake Charles public schools, graduating from Lake Charles High School in 1932 as valedictorian of her class. She attended LSU on scholarship for one year where she was a member of Alpha Lamda Delta freshman honorary fraternity, Chi Omega sorority and a cheerleader. Because of the depression, she left LSU to form a dance school with her sister in Lake Charles.
Mrs. Plauché met her future husband Samuel Wilmore Plauché, Jr. in high school and they later married on June 22, 1937. They resided in Lake Charles their entire married life where Billy practiced law and they reared three children. She was active in Junior League, the Lake Charles Ballet Society, her community and at First Presbyterian Church where she taught primary Sunday School. She and Billy dearly loved their second home in Lake City, Colorado, where they especially enjoyed time spent with family. She relocated to Gainesville in her later years and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Plauché was predeceased by her parents, her husband S.W. Plauché, Jr. her son S.W. Plauché, III, and her siblings Frank C. Winter, Jr. and Ida Winter Clarke of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and John C. Winter of Murray, Kentucky.
She is survived by her daughters Laney Plauché Lake and husband, Frank Lake, Sr. of Gainesville, and Denise Plauché Hamel and husband Justin Hamel of Centennial, Colorado; those calling her Nana include grandchildren Winter Lake Cox (Clayton) of Gainesville; Sara Lake of Clinton, Mississippi; Frank Lake, Jr. (Sandy) of Braselton, Georgia; Catherine Lake Myer (Patrick) of Edmond, Oklahoma; Chalin Plauché Jones of Lafayette, Louisiana; S.W. Plauché IV (Amanda) of Seattle, Washington; Jacqueline Plauché Cagley (Richard) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; George C. Plauché (Pamela) of Lafayette, Louisiana; and Justin Hamel, Jr. of Centennial, Colorado. Mrs. Plauché is also survived by 26 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
The joys of her life were her husband, children and grandchildren. She was known for her love of ballet, opera, classic poetry, cooking (especially candy) and lavishly hosting innumerable parties and family gatherings.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Family graveside services will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Orange Grove Cemetery 2023 Broad ST. Lake Charles, LA 70601.
