Monica Powell McCreary

Monica Powell McCreary, age 86, of Flowery Branch, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2021, with her children by her bedside.  She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on August 12, 1934, to the late John William Powell and Addie Cooper Powell.

Monica was best known for her love of music.  Her music/singing career began when she sang her first solo at 2½ years old.  She had a beautiful voice and loved singing opera most of all.  After she graduated high school, she received a full scholarship to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music to study opera.  It was during her time at the conservatory that she realized she really wanted to use her love of music to teach others how to play the piano and sing.  She spent most of her life teaching piano and voice to many young people.  She also directed children’s choirs and ladies ensembles, and sang in church choirs for over 70 years. Now she has joined the angels and is singing in the Heavenly Choir for all eternity.

Monica is survived by her son and daughter in law, Bill and Gigi Lindner; her daughter Connie Lindner Esford; her granddaughters, Tiffany Wilson and husband Lindsey, Amanda Lindner, and Carly Esford; great granddaughter, Mia Lynn Wilson; her brother and sister-in-law John and Mary Anne Powell; and nephews Mark, Michael, and Matthew Powell.  She loved her family dearly and was so proud of them all. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville in the Sanctuary.  The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m.
