Dr. Jack Lynn Bynum, age 79, formerly of Cleveland, Ga. went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Habersham Medical Center.

He was born to Arthur Graham Bynum and Reba Thompson Bynum on March 5, 1942, in Pasadena, Texas.  Jack grew up in Galena Park, Texas where he played quarterback on the high school football team. He also served honorably in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in Pasadena, Texas.

Jack attended Huston Baptist University and earned a Bachelors degree in English and Music
As a member of the Huston Baptist College "Singers" group he was able to travel to Europe to share his gift of music.  Jack also earned a Masters in psychology and Doctorate in Education at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Eventually settling in White County, Ga. with his family, he enjoyed may years as part of the local community.  Jack will be remembered by many for his dry sense of humor. He enjoyed many hobbies including jogging, bicycle riding, listening to classical music, watching his favorite movies and sports on TV, woodworking, and also had a great interest in reading.
He enjoyed traveling to Texas to visit family as much as possible. Many vacations were spent helping his mother with projects and taking his sons fishing in the local "cow ponds." He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ga. and made many friends there. Jack loved singing in the choir each Sunday.

He enjoyed a long career in higher education, leaving his mark on many college communities. He served as Dean of Students at Louisiana College, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Truett McConnell College, and was a psychology professor at Lanier Tech and Gainesville College.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his older brother Eugene Bynum.

He is survived by his younger brother James T. Bynum of Boston, Mass., former wife Judy Claire Smith Bynum George of Helen, Ga, and sons John Graham Bynum of Dahlonega, Ga. and Jeffrey Thomas Bynum of Melbourne, Fla.

The family appreciates the kindness shown to Jack during the past few years by the staff at Habersham Retreat and Habersham Home where he made many new friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate.  Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.
