Edith Godfrey Collins, 93, of Gainesville, GA passed away Saturday July 31, 2021.
Edith was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church. Despite losing her husband, son, and daughter in a horrific drowning accident at the age of 34, Edith persevered to lead a very full life, dedicating herself to raising her remaining five children and assisting family and friends whenever they were in need. She loved to travel, having visited almost every state in the U.S. and much of Europe. She also deeply influenced the lives of each of her grandchildren.
Mrs. Collins is survived by her son, Danny Collins and his wife, Susan, of Flowery Branch, son, Tom Collins and his wife, Karen, of Pendergrass, son, Jack Collins, and his wife, Linda, of Jefferson, son, Bill Collins, and his wife, Trudi, of Monroe, son, Rick Collins, and his wife, Cindy, of Gainesville, brother, Oscar Godfrey, and his wife, Robbie, of Conyers, sister, Myrtle Evans, of Leesville, SC, 14 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlie and Fanny Godfrey, spouse, Otto Collins, daughter, Marie Collins, son, Dennis Collins, brother, Claude Godfrey, brother, Harold Godfrey, brother, Carlton Godfrey, and sister, Ethel Toney. Special recognition for her nephew, Ronnie Godfrey, for years of loving care and support.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 4, 2021 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Latty, Rev. Jack Burgess & Mr. John Latty officiating. Burial will follow in Belmont Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday August 3, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8p.m. at the funeral home.
