JL Isbell went to be with our Lord on Saturday July 24, 2021.
A son of the late Carl and Hattie Wilbanks Isbell, he was born September 26, 1934. JL was 86 years old and was married to his beautiful wife of 68 years, Pernie Rachel Thomas. JL and Pernie were raised in Toccoa, Georgia and married in 1953. Soon after they moved to Atlanta, Georgia and started a family. JL enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a faithful Christian, husband, and father. He was a hard worker taking on manual labor jobs during the day and trade school at night until he raised enough money in the early 60’s to start his own Barber business in College Park, Georgia. For about 20 years he successfully owned and managed College Park Barber Shop. In the 80’s he sold the business and then managed two furniture retail stores in the Atlanta area. In his last five years he moved to Evans, Georgia and then to Lincolnton, Georgia to enjoy precious time with his family.
JL was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Hattie (Wilbanks) Isbell and his siblings, brothers, George, Jones, Charlie, James, Gene, and Carl Isbell, sisters, Nell Lowe, Lucille Dooley, Grace Herron, Lucy Dellinger, Jessie Holland and Pauline Isbell.
JL is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pernie Rachel Thomas Isbell; three daughters; Kathy married to Stanley Knight, Connie married to Roger Campbell and Cynthia Isbell; four grandchildren, Thomas, Avril, Geoffrey and Mandi and nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mozelle Isbell; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other family and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 30, 2021, 11 O’clock in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Stanley Knight, Matthew Fahner, Thomas Campbell, Javier Ancalle, Bill Thomas and Roger Campbell.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home, 90 S. Pond Street, Toccoa, Georgia on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Final resting place will be Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. JL Isbell.
