John Henry Timms

Obituary Date: Monday, July 26, 2021

Mr. John Henry Timms, 76, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021.

Born on May 30, 1945 in Carrollton, Georgia. He was the son of the late Charlie and Minnie Timms.

Mr. Timms moved to Gainesville, Georgia when he married the love of his life, Cherry Shope Timms on July 18, 1964, who passed away earlier this year after almost 57 years of marriage. He was employed with STORK GAMCO as a poultry equipment service technician, where he thoroughly enjoyed traveling the country with his co-workers who were more like family. He was a member of Glory Baptist Church in Gainesville, where he was known for his BBQ that he would faithfully prepare for church functions. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing and passing on this loved pastime to his children and grandchildren. He could often be found in his backyard shop working on small engines or welding projects, he was something of a local MacGyver. He has always enjoyed settling in to watch a good western and when you visited it was likely that you saw his television graced with John Wayne, Clint Eastwood or Matt Dillon. While he may have been known by many names, those who love him most know him as Daddy and Pop.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Timms is preceded in death by his siblings Mary Gray, Robert Timms, David (Junior) Timms, Joann Taylor, Linda Hand and Tommy Timms.

Mr. Timms is survived by his daughter and son in law, Tracey and Scott Harbin of Cumming; son and daughter in law, Charlie and Amber Timms of Flowery Branch; sister and brother in law, Frances & Jim Dunlap, sister, Martha Williamson, sister and brother in law, Willie Mae & Edward Boyd, brother, Charles Timms; grandchildren, Zachary and Courtney Harbin, Tiffany and Stephan Morgan, Wyatt, Maddie, Issi and Titus Timms, Riley, Haley and Rachael Smith; and brother in law, Randy Clark.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and employees of Hospice of NGMC for their care and guidance.

Honorary Pallbearer Randall Baird.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 12:00 to 1:30 with the memorial service following at 2:00 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home in Flowery Branch, GA. Rev. David Harbin and Rev. Randy Roys will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Gardens in Gainesville, GA.
