On July 12, 2021, Ronald Bruce Downs Sr. passed away peacefully at the Oaks at Hampton, in Cumming Georgia. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty Jean and his son Brian. He is survived by his three sons, Bruce (Lisa), Bill, and Bobby (Leslie), Brian’s wife Karen, and seven grandchildren, Laura, Mason, Kenny, Alex, Casey, Davis and Presley.
Ronny was born in Wilks-Barre, Pennsylvania April 5th, 1940. He grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he met Betty Jean Cleveland, the love of his life, in January of 1962. Ronny and Betty were married May 19th, 1962. Ronny started his career at Norfolk Southern Railroad the same year. Ten years of marriage and four kids later, he was transferred to the Atlanta area. Ronny retired in 2003 from Norfolk Southern Railroad, after more than forty years of service.
Ronny will always be remembered for his loving devotion to his family, kindness and patience. He was the greatest example of what it means to be a father and grandfather. Ronny loved coaching his sons in basketball and baseball when he was younger and cheering for them and his grandchildren. He enjoyed golf, photography, USA classic Diner (proprietor) and was an avid fan of the Braves and Falcons. Many of his photographs were selected for the Norfolk Southern Railroad’s annual calendars.
A memorial service will be held at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia July 24th at 1pm.
