Dr. Harold Allen Windus age 92 of Green Forest Drive, Toccoa passed away Friday July 16, 2021 at his residence.

A son of the late Herbert and Mae Corbin Windus, he was born March 16, 1929 in Belmont, New York and had lived in Toccoa since 1968. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in Germany during the Korean War period. He graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College with a B.A. degree, earned a Master’s degree from Trinity University and received his Ed.D. from Highlands University. He taught high school chemistry and physics in Warsaw, New York, then spent four years as a science teacher and basketball coach at the Christian Academy of Japan before returning to Warsaw. Four years later, he and his family moved to Toccoa where he served as guidance counselor and science teacher at Toccoa Falls Academy until its closure in 1976.  Thereafter, he spent several years in establishing the Elementary Education program at Toccoa Falls College.  Later, he worked overseas for a number of years as headmaster, guidance counselor and science teacher at Christian schools in the Dominican Republic, Columbia and Honduras before returning to Toccoa where he again worked at Toccoa Falls College as married student advisor.  He also served as the coordinator of the chaplaincy program at Stephens County Hospital. He was a member of Toccoa First Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher. He also inspired many people in the church to go on short-term mission trips, including a fondly remembered mission to serve the dental needs of the people of the Amazon. He was preceded in death by brothers John Windus, Robert Windus, Donald Windus and Ned Windus.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Carter Windus and son Allen Windus of the home, daughter and son-in-law Anne and Donald Kelley of Toccoa, twin sons and daughters-in-law Peter and Lila Windus of Toccoa, Paul and Kelly Windus of Ozark, Alabama and grandchildren Charlotte, Danielle, Joshua, Moriah, Mi and Kathleen, plus two great grandchildren Toby and Ben.
