Ferman James Gregory

Mr. Ferman James Gregory, age 85 of North Avenue, Eastanollee passed away Friday July 9, 2021 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A son of the late Mack and Leta Berrong Gregory, he was born August 16, 1935 in Hiawassee, Georgia.  He was a graduate of Towns County High School.  He attended Truett McConnell College and the University of Georgia where he received his Masters Degree in Agriculture.  He taught Agriculture at East Hall High School for one year before coming to Stephens County High School where he taught for 30 years.  He has been a lifetime cattle farmer.  He was a member of the Stephens County Cattlemen’s Association, a member of the Stephens County Farm Bureau and the Retired Agriculture Teachers Association,  served on the Stephens County Hospital Authority for 38 years, from 1971 to 2009, serving as Chairman from 1987 to 2009,  was inducted into the Stephens County Farm Bureau Hall of Fame in 2012, served on the Stephens County Board of Education and received many honors and awards in the field of Agriculture, was inducted into the Georgia Agricultural Education Hall of Fame in 2015,  and  served in the Army Reserve.  He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Encouragers Small Group.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Rogers Gregory of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Kesler of Athens, Tennessee; five granddaughters and their husbands, Lindsey and Travis Ansel of Prospect, Kentucky, Katherine and Bill Dabbs of Knoxville, Tennessee, Haley Kesler of Knoxville, Tennessee,  Hannah and Zach Dillon of Casper, Wyoming and Mia and Jake Taylor of Knoxville, Tennessee; seven great-grandchildren, Aaron and Thomas Ansel, Maggie and Jack Dabbs, Forrest, Kit and Eli Dillon; sister, Jean Trotter of Gainesville, Georgia; niece and her husband, Karen and Rick Oldham of Cleveland, Georgia; sisters-in-law and spouse, Sue and Jim Hunnicutt of Lavonia, Georgia and Anne Rogers of Eastanollee, Georgia; brothers-in-law and spouse, Clifford Rogers of Watkinsville, Georgia and Harold and Linda Rogers of Toccoa, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 12, 2021, 2 O’clock p.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with The Reverend Andy Childs and Mr. John Wilkinson officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers,

Donnie Duke, Michael Jarrett, Rick Kesler, Rick Oldham, Mark Smith, Dennis Whiten, John Wilkinson and Mark Wilkinson.  Honorary Escort will be the Breakfast Club and Encouragers Small Group.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, July 11, 2021, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Flowers are optional.  Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 49 Roselane, Toccoa, Georgia  30577 in memory of Mr. Ferman James Gregory.

Entombment will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating.
