James V. Smitherman, Jr.

James V. Smitherman, Jr., age 75, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021.

A celebration of life will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

James was born March 19, 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the son of the late James V. Smitherman, Sr. and Eileen (Taylor) Smitherman, grandson, Jacob Dean Smith and brother-in-law, Gerald McIntyre.

He retired after 40 years with CSX Railroad.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Elaine (Manley) Smitherman; life companion, Nan Jackson; children, Susan (Smitherman) Smith (Dean); James and Steven Smitherman; Matthew Thomas Smitherman and Mickey & Beth W. Sharpe; Kim & Ryan Satterfield, Leah & Kevin Satterfield; grandchildren, Nicholas A. Smith, Kassie M. Dixon, Dana V. Figueroa, Ivan Torres, Peyton Satterfield, Peri Satterfield and Micah Satterfield; Mary Caroline Sharpe, Sam Sharpe and Nick Sharpe and six great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Ronnie Williams and sister, Faye McIntyre and a number of other family and friends also survive.
