John Wesley Dunagan

Obituary Date: Monday, June 28, 2021

John Wesley Dunagan, 52, of Gainesville, died June 28, 2021 after an extended illness.  John was born in Gainesville and was the son of Sherma Hughes Dunagan and the late Randy Dunagan.

John is survived by his mother, Sherma Hughes Dunagan; daughter Caitlin(10) and son Brayden (5); sister Kristina Marie Dunagan; uncle Jim Henderson (Jan); nieces Alex King, Ana Westbrook, and Alia Benjamin and nephew Austin Reisinger; sisters-by-heart; Jenny "T-Bird" Gabriel, Chase Crenshaw, and Heather Blansit; brothers-by-heart; Wilder Embry, Steven Budd, Matt Freeman, Loren Hunt, and D. Morgan; cousin Krista Hughes; and countless other family and friends who were blessed to love and be loved by John.

John called two places home: Gainesville, Georgia and Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  In Florida, he graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and indulged his love for the beach. While in Georgia, he enjoyed family and started a career in telecommunications.  After years of working in the telecom industry, in the fall of 2014 John finally channeled his lifelong passion for weight training into establishing a personal training business, The BAR.  He built a loyal clientele who were drawn to his positive and encouraging spirit.

Throughout his life, wherever he went, John gathered true friends and kept them, becoming a brother to many.  He knew how to have fun during life's highs and how to be a steady companion during life's lows.  A devoted son, brother, and uncle, John's greatest achievement and highest joy in life was being a father to Caitlin and Brayden.  They regularly went on grand adventures and at all times delighted in one another.

The family would like to thank the medical team at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center ICU as well as his surgical team, for their dedicated and compassionate care of John during his long illness and all of the friends who came and sat with him.

Visitation will be Saturday July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home.  There will be a gathering of family and friends following the service at Luna's on the square in Gainesville.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John's honor may be made to the "Support for John Dunagan's Children" fund on gofundme.com
