Rev. Bethel D Midgett, age 86 of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 following an extended illness. Mr. Midgett was born August 20, 1935 in Lebanon, TN to the late Mr. Beth Midgett and Mrs. Mary Frances Millar Midgett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Bond Midgett, and his two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Speck (Gil), of Wedowee, AL, and Petina Cheek (Doug), of Homer, GA; sons-in-law John Dubois of Alto, GA and Jay Buck of Vici, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren: Derek Deason and Darren Deason, both of Carrollton, GA; Julie Tuesday Parker of New York, NY, Cody Barrett of Gainesville, GA, Toby Dubois of Alto, GA, Annie Buck, Amie Hager, Matt Buck, all of Oklahoma, and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Midgett was preceded in death by his foster daughters, Joy Dubois and Robin Buck.
Rev. Midgett retired from the Hall County School System, where he was the Book Depository Manager at the Instructional Services Center for many years. He became such an institution there that tenured teachers often gave unintentionally humorous advice by referring to Bethel himself as a place for books and supplies when they advised new teachers to “Go to Bethel.”
His calling as a Baptist minister led him to serve as a pastor for many years, first at Sugar Hill Baptist Church in Gainesville and later at Macedonia Baptist Church also in Gainesville. His love for others and heart for service will be greatly missed, not only by his family, but by the larger family of God. He is currently a member at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Banks County.
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Memorial Park Drive from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will be led by the Rev. James Duncan on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 11am at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 2405 Hwy 51 S., where Mr. Midgett worshipped faithfully. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery will follow the service.
Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA 30504 is in charge of arrangements.
