Paul "Paw Paw" Chastain

Paul “PawPaw” Chastain, age 84, of Cleveland, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021.

Mr. Chastain was born on August 22, 1936, in Rainbow Springs, North Carolina, to the late Sherman and Louise Bedford Chastain Paul was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.  During his time in the Army, he wrestled.  He was sure to tell you he never lost.  After leaving the Army, Paul served as Chief of Police for the City of Locust Grove and Union City.  He later left to pursue his passion in carpentry.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lou Chastain; daughter, Kathy Lynn Driskell; 6 brothers; 3 sisters.

Survivors include his children, Paul Steven Chastain, Greenville, Ga, Marty Randall Chastain, Stockbridge, Ga, Jeffrey Anthony Chastain, Cleveland, Ga; Cynthia Annette Smoker, Gainesville, Ga, and Amy Bowyer, Loganville, Ga; step-son and wife, Robert and Joanne Myers, Hartwell, Ga; step-daughter and husband, Rhonda and David Hopkins, Ellenwood, Ga; sister and brother-in-law, Eula Mae and Cobb Young, Lake Michigan; sister, Josephine Jones, Cleveland, Ga; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Alvin Jones will officiate.  Interment will follow at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Heffner officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
